Assemble the Exterior and Lining

1) To make the draw string panel, fold the side seam of the panel inwards 3/8” and press. Fold over another 3/8” again and press. Repeat for the other end.

2) Topstitch 1/8” away from folded edges.

3) Fold the panel in half with wrong sides together and press.

4) Place the folded drawstring panel onto the top of the exterior front piece, aligning the raw edges. Pin and baste both pieces together. Backstitch on both ends. Sew the other panel and exterior back in the same manner.

5) Place the exterior front and back pieces with right sides together. Pin in place and sew the bag. Pivot at the corners and backstitch on both ends.

6) Trim the corner seams.

7) Turn the pouch right side out.

8) Assemble the lining in the same manner as the exterior, leaving a 2-3” opening at the bottom for turning the pouch right side out.

9) Trim the corner seams.

Assemble the Pouch

1) Press the assembled exterior and lining pouch seams open. Tuck the exterior into the lining with right sides together.

2) Pin and sew the exterior and lining around the top opening, backstitch on both ends.

3) Turn the pouch right side out through the opening and stitch the opening closed. Tuck the lining into the exterior.

4) Press the top opening of the pouch. Topstitch 1/8” away from the seam.

5) Attach a safety pin to one end of the string.

6) Insert the cotton string into the tube.

7) Work the safety pin around the tube. Pull it out on the same opening, so that it creates a frill.

8) Insert the stopper (or wood bead) and knot the end.

9) Repeat this process for the other side and opening.
