* No seam allowance is needed for the interfacing

Cut out the Fabric
Cut out the exterior, lining, and interfacing. Fuse the interfacing on the wrong side of the lining following the manufacturer’s guide.

Make the Pencil Pocket

1)Place the exterior pencil pocket and lining pencil pocket pieces with right sides together. Pin and stitch together, leave a bottom gap for turning right side out.

2) Trim the top corner seams.

3) Turn the pencil pocket right side out and press. Topstitch 1/8” away from the top edge.

4) Place the assembled pencil pocket onto the lining pencil case panel. Align the bottom raw edge, matching the center. Pin and baste the bottom. Topstitch 1/8” away from both side edges.

5) Draw the pocket’s divider lines in 2” intervals onto the right side of the pencil pocket piece using chalk or a washable pen. Sew the pocket’s divider lines, backstitching on both ends.

Make the Top Flap

1) Place the exterior flap and lining flap pieces with right sides together. Pin and stitch together, leaving a top opening for turning right side out.

2) Clip the bottom corner seams.

3) Turn the flap right sides out and press. Topstitch 1/8” away from the edges.

4) Place the assembled flap onto the lining pencil case panel. Align the top raw edge, matching the center. Pin and baste together.

Assemble the Exterior and Lining

1) Place the leather cords onto the right side of the exterior pencil case panel. Pin and baste it to the center of the left side seam.

2) Place the exterior and lining pieces with right sides together. Pin and stitch together. Leave a gap for turning right side out.

3) Trim the corner seams.

4) Turn the pencil case right side out through the opening. Press the pencil case.

5) Fold the flap toward the lining side of the panel. Press the pencil case and topstitch 1/8” from the edge.

6) When using the pencil case, unfold the flap, then insert the pens.

7) Fold the flap. Roll the pencil case towards the leather cord attached side.

8) Roll the leather cords around the pencil case.

9) When there is 2-3” of the leather cord remaining, wrap the end of the leather cord around the leather sitting snuggly against the pencil case.
