Make the Exterior Purse Piece

1) Place the exterior center panel facing right side up. Put one side panel onto the center panel with the straight edges together, and right sides facing. Pin the center panel and side panel together. Stitch the panels using a 1/4” seam allowance. Iron the seam toward the side panel. Turn the panel over to the front, and press the seam again. Topstitch on the side panel, 1/8” away from the seam. Attach the other side panel following the same process. Fuse the interfacing on the wrong side of the exterior.

Attach the Zipper

1) Place the zipper on the exterior purse piece with right sides together. You will be able to see the wrong side of the zipper. Pin the zipper and zipper panel in place. Stitch the two using a zipper foot, sewing close to the tape edge. Backstitch to secure.

2) Place the lining piece onto the zipper with right sides toward the right side of the exterior piece and pin it together. The zipper will now be between the exterior and the lining. Sew the zipper close to the coils. Backstitch on both ends.

3) After sewing the zipper with the lining, flip the lining towards the exterior so wrong sides are together, and press. Topstitch the exterior piece close to the coils.

4) Attach the other exterior and lining piece in the same manner.

5) Make the loop, see Appendix: Make the Loop. Fold the loop in half. Base the loop (or ribbon) onto the exterior seam and baste together.

6) Turn the purse lining side out. Sew the ends of the purse. Backstitch on both ends.

7) Sew the other end of the purse perpendicular to the previous stitch to make it a prism shape. Backstitch on both ends. Sew the bias tape close to the edge, backstitching on both ends, see Appendix: Bind the BiasRepeat for the other side. If you do not wish to use a bias, overlock the seams.
