I was wondering what material would make my shoes wearable outdoors?

Sorry, since the patterns on our website are meant to be indoor shoes we can't give you the most useful information. However, we recommend using materials made for outdoors, especially on the bottom of the shoes, such as rubber soles for making outdoor shoes.

I have made several pairs and different styles for outdoor use. I use moosehide, buffalohide and cowhide. Depending on the use... light to moderate I use one layer and add an insole, for heavy use I've used 2 layers of hide with Melton wool inbetween. I have an industrial machine so I'm able to go through all layers quite easily.

You can also condition the hide with beeswax or some kind of leather waterproofing spray.
